It was two years ago in 2023 that the brand purchased Universal Geneve with the intention of resurrecting the beloved company. Gallet was founded in 1826 by Julien Gallet and was dedicated to creating timepieces for travelers and adventurers. But the founding family’s roots go even further back – to the mid 1400s when they were clock builders. It expanded in 1871 to the United States market via Jules Racine & Co., which distributed it exclusively — building Gallet into a prominent name in American watchmaking. According to the brand’s archives, its contributions to aviation history include timing the Wright brothers’ first powered flight in 1903 (when the Kitty Hawk Flyer covered 852 feet in 59 seconds)with “The Sun” stopwatch.
The brand acquired a Swiss watch manufacturer, Société d’Horlogerie Electa, in 1907 – giving it even greater production capacity, and in the ensuing couple of decades, developed several patents and innovations.
